Suzie and Tom cofounded Combination Languages in 2008 when
teaching together in a secondary school in West Sussex as they
wanted to give students the chance to make an emotional
connection to the language that they are studying by making
friends with native speakers.
During a Combination Languages Immersion Trip students jump
right into another language and culture either by travelling to
England, France, Germany or Spain or by acting as a Pen-Pal and
welcoming a visiting student to their country and being part of
a host school or even a host family. Our ethos stems from the
belief that when young people have the opportunity to befriend
someone who speaks the language that they are learning, their
motivation and curiosity to learn increases enormously.
The exciting and varied itinerary in each country is a mixture
of cultural and educational visits with lively, interactive
activities encouraging students to get to know one another.
These are not just a chance for students to have fun and
discover the beauty of the place that they are visiting, but are
also carefully designed to ensure that both visiting and hosting
students speak the foreign language, communicate together and as
such develop their language skills and allow their friendship to
blossom.
Living the language is what it’s all about!
